Repost • @zacklober: Outside of the Jazz/Improv world I have just as much love for DJ/Turntablist culture, Hip Hop, RnB, House and Electronic music and one of the coolest things about releasing an album is getting to reach out to some of my favorite electronic music artists to ask them if they would be up for creating a remix.
@kypski is one of those folks.
Besides being one of the best turntablists on the planet (check his pedigree) he has been steadily breaking new ground with his own music known as “Syntablism” that combines analog synthesis with turntable scratch technique.

“Surprisingly I ended up not using any of your stems or digital audio, as I sure was intending to do in the beginning. After I recorded the modular ‘guitar’ notes with the drum groove the samples just didn’t seem fitting to the style anymore. I wanted to have a semi polyrythmic groove clashing between 12/8 in the guitar and 4/4 in the drums. The ‘guitar’ is the Intellijel Plonk module sequenced by Malekko Voltage Block. The drums I designed and programmed on my Pulsar 23 drumsynth.
That became a backing beat and vibe i couldn’t let go of, and to me had similarities with your original song rhythmically. But in a completely other world sonically. Since my modular and Pulsar were constantly modulating the timbres, and the fx processors were evolving, it was already very interesting to listen to. But I was missing your lead parts, so I designed a dubby melodica-type sound on the Massive synth VST and used that to play fragments of the song’s lead melody. Tuning was intentionally ‘off’ in some parts andI liked that, so I kept those detuned notes in. It became somewhat of a trip, and after I added some meticulous scratching and got the mix right and mastered it, it was done. I’m very happy with how it turned out, I hope you are too.”

This @bandcamp Friday i would like to present to you my first ever beat tape release ‘PULSAR BEATS’.
I decided to produce this beat tape because as a drum synthesizer and drum instrument the @somasynths PULSAR-23 is unparalleled to any other drum instrument and stands completely on its own. Designed and developed by Vlad Kreimer, this machine just blows my mind with its modular sound design, CV looping and alien drum programming and shaping capabilities. I felt I needed to focus on just this one machine and make a beat tape with it with a #modbap mindset. The beats are all recorded as live one takers, mixed live to stereo, with as little post – processing done as possible.
