Another mixtape : 90's NOW! Golden Era Mixtape 2012 – plus a personal story… - 29-05-2012
After the Kyptape 2012 i have for you another free mixtape: 90′s NOW! Golden Era Mixtape
But why, you ask? Well, just because it can. It’s the backbone of everything that i do and it’s summertime. The time felt right. Here in Holland there are popular parties called 90′s NOW!, with 90′s music, but their dj’s never spin the 90′s music that really matters to me personally. So that’s why i call it 90′s NOW!, to give that catchphrase a spin. Plus it was a lot of fun to make. Of course i got a little nostalgic and melancholic while making it, but at the same time i tried to stay away from a lot of classic songs that i grew up with and find some old gems that were new to myself as well. By doing that it felt more ‘fresh’.
Whats Golden Era, you ask? Well, hip hop purists often refer to Golden Era when they mean what they think is the golden age & period of hip hop: the whole 1990′s period, starting at 1989 and ending somewhat around 1998. In their eyes the best hiphop music has been produced in that period. Of course we can argue about that for ages, and i’m not
a purist at all . I hate purists actually (i was a purist in the 90′s though haha). But i do know one thing: the ‘Golden Era’ period stands for a certain sound,
wich derived from the technological (r)evolution at the time. Samplers were the hippest devices that allowed producers to stay away from the slick sounding MIDI keyboards and loop their favorite breakbeats, soul, funk & jazz records resulting in a distinct raw sound. And boy do i love raw sounds!

BUT: If you think that with 90′s NOW! i’m ‘finally returning to my roots’ because that’s what i love doing the most, you’re wrong. If you look at the blogpost before this one, there’s another free mixtape called ‘Kyptape 2012′. I was amazed at how much it got downloaded, thank you all for that. Basically its the same mix, but with a completely different musical selection: electronic dance music of today that i like the most and spin in my latenight sets in clubs. And that’s what i love doing the most. Using old techniques and styles to create something new. Same goes for producing and creating new music. That’s why i’ve put these two mixtapes in one blogpost. Listen to them both and spot the similarities
